Prayer of the week
We thank you, heavenly Father, that you have delivered us from the power of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of your Son: we pray that as by his death he has recalled us to life,
so by his presence abiding in us he may raise us to joys eternal; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Prayer of the day
Life-giving God,
your Son came into the world
to free us all from sin and death:
breathe upon us with the power of your Spirit,
that we may be raised to new life in Christ,
and serve you in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

idea of what you want to draw. If you have any questions, please don't
hesitate to contact Michele on 0409182731. Look forward to seeing
everyone.
Bible Study
For the five Wednesdays in March, we will be gathering at the clergy
house. Bring your Bible and your questions and come round the back to
the patio - the gate will be open. 7:30pm - 9pm. All welcome. Don’t worry

Australia/NZ contributed 288,104 including, SA/NT: 18,673 which were sent to the Philippines.
Thank you so much for your generosity. Val Dean and Lyn Wells
Time to Count!
Please bring in your Bush Church Aid (BCA) coin boxes for the half yearly counting. It doesn't matter if there are only a few coins in the box. Better that BCA has the use of them for their valuable work than they just sit there. St John's folk can give them to Woody to bring up to the office and All Hallows can give them to me. Counting is done at the end of March.
Thanks, Lyn Wells, m: 0414 237 303.
Masquerade Party
You are cordially invited to a roaring 20’s Masquerade Party. It’s the roaring 20’s again so let’s celebrate. Good food, good entertainment, and good company. Come 'dressed to kill’ with a prize for best mask. 3pm Saturday 25th March 2023 at 433 Piggott Range Road, Clarendon.

KIDS Hope
Our parish mentors kids at Coromandel Valley Primary School (CVPS) during the school year. School starts on January 30th. There are many needy kids for whatever reason. If you have a heart for kids and want to see them thrive, please talk to me about how you can be a mentor. It is a great joy to help kids. Please pray for us and the kids. Lyn Wells M: 0414 237 303
150th Anniversary Celebrations
21st May 2023 is the 150th anniversary celebration for St John’s. Look out for more details to come.
Parish Prayer Group
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month from 10.00-11.00am in the outer office - all welcome to join us.
This group differs from the prayer circle in that we pray in general for the parish and for ongoing needs, not only for immediate prayer needs. If there is something specific you would like us to pray for, or if you would like to be lifted in prayer (no need to give us a reason) please contact Tracy tracywoodsford@gmail.com or 0423 018 609.
Prayer Circle
Members of the Parish prayer circle are available to pray for you or for someone for whom you are concerned. To initiate please phone Joan Roper (8278-2632).
The Imaginary Doorway Lenten Study
ABM’S 2023 LENTEN STUDY NOW READY TO PRE-ORDER!
‘The Imaginary Doorway’ is another fine piece of Australian missional theology, designed to get your group talking and your mind thinking. Seven studies that, from Ash Wednesday to Holy Week, take us into the lives of seven of the people Jesus brought to wholeness. Seven stories that bring scripture alive and help us to understand that Jesus was dealing with real people, rather than generic characters. Hear anew the stories of Legion, the haemorrhaging woman, Lazarus and Martha, the woman accused of adultery, Zacchaeus, the paralysed man let down through the roof – and that post-resurrection BBQ breakfast on the beach.
Story-based studies that will touch your heart, build your faith, and encourage you on the missional journey. All genuine mission is incarnational and relationally based. As the studies suggest, “If our mission is all about purpose rather than relationship, we miss the point.”
Written by ABM Education Missioner, Stephen Daughtry, with art by Vanessa Daughtry, this will be another beautiful and challenging dive into God’s love. Pre-order now by clicking here

Covid prayer by St Augustine. Offered at Iona, Scotland in an ecumenical service of healing.
Watch now, dear Lord, with those who wake or watch or weep tonight;
and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend your sick ones, O Christ,
rest your weary ones, bless your dying ones, soothe your suffering ones,
shield your joyous ones, and all for your love's sake.

Mental and Spiritual Health in isolation
Much is being written in the media and in faith communities about isolation, mental health and related concerns. We can cover these issues too. If you have any resources or comments, you are also welcome to email them to me. I have posted such material on Facebook already and will continue to do so. Our weekly leaflets now have more room (no meetings to advertise) and prayer points may sometimes be amplified.

Bobbie Luks / Parish Office
Bobbie continues to offer parish office administration 3 hours per week on a paid basis. She is usually present on a Monday morning, now from 9.00am (not 10.15am) until about 11.15 – 11.30am, variable. The remaining 30 – 45 minutes is usually done on a Friday afternoon to finalise and print the leaflets or any other urgent matter, and thus is not a suitable time for any detailed admin. On some other days of the week, she works in 3 other parish offices including Belair. Occasionally she varies these times, informing Rev'd Woody, therefore if you need to speak to Bobbie or to see her in person, call or text before coming into the office to double-check: 0410 279 832. Items for the weekly leaflets should ideally be given to Bobbie by Monday morning; if only.

PEW REFLECTIONS:
St Joseph, Husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Monday 20 March 2023
• 2 Samuel 7.4-16 or Joel 2.27-32; Psalm 89.19-30 or Psalm 1;
Romans 4.13-22 or Ephesians 6.1-4; Matthew 1.18-25
Today’s gospel reading is about St Joseph, husband of the blessed virgin Mary. We find Joseph in a quandary, what is he to do about his pregnant betrothed? His plan is to hide her away until a time deemed more appropriate. However, this was never going to happen as an angel appears to him in a
dream and presents a different course of action. There seems to be two elements to this story: the call, the dream of the angel; and the response, obedience to that call. And this promoted me to consider whether I would recognise a calling from the usual array of otherworldly dreams that
besiege the night? Would I recognise an angel in that forbidding nocturnal realm? And even more worryingly would I have the discernment and fortitude to be obedient to this calling? Did Joseph have misgivings? Did he wake the next morning shaking his head and thinking what was all that about? We are not informed of this, we do know however that he “did as the angel of the Lord commanded”.
• Lord, help me to recognise your calling whenever and wherever you come to me. May I not be hesitant, cautious or indifferent to your calling but optimistically obedient to all that you require of me, and with integrity and calm reach toward the opportunities that you have presented to me. Grant me discernment in recognising your calling knowing that it is that which I most crucially need to
hear.
• Give thanks for the work and witness of the Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea.

The Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary – Saturday 25 March 2023
• Isaiah 7.10-14; Psalm 40.6-13;
Hebrews 10.4-10; Luke 1.26-38
Before the Angel told Mary that she would have a child, he told her that she had found favour with God. We each have a call from God on our lives, but sometimes rather than feeling blessed or favoured, we can feel overwhelmed and anxious. Time spent with other Christians, or in quiet contemplation, can sometimes help. How do you find the encouragement from God and from community that allows you to say, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to
your word”?
• Pray for openness to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
• Give thanks for the work and witness of the Mothers’
Union throughout the world.

The Fifth Sunday in Lent – Sunday 26 March 2023
• Ezekiel 37.1-14; Psalm 130;
Romans 8.6-11; John 11.1-45
John 11: 1-45 includes two noteworthy things that may be overlooked. First, Jesus was compassionate. He felt deeply for those affected and acted decisively to help. Second, Jesus interacted with a woman who recognised that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God, as Peter did in an exchange with Jesus
reported in the synoptic gospels. A study of the earliest available Greek text and pertinent early literature by Elizabeth Schrader indicated that the woman was not Martha, but actually Mary Magdalene, the first witness to Jesus’ resurrection (Harvard Theological Review, 110, 3, July 2017,
pp. 360-392; reviewed and summarised by Diana Butler Bass at https://dianabutlerbass.substack.com/p/mary-the-tower).• Let’s pray for God’s gift of compassion and give thanks for His conferment of equal standing on all people. • Give thanks for the work and witness of the Anglican Church of Korea, the Daehan Seong Gong Hoe.
