APTISMS
Enquiries about baptism should be directed to the Parish Priest
via email: office@coroparish.com or phone: 0411 308 833

Baptisms normally take place at a public service on a Sunday.  There are two churches in the parish, Coromandel Valley and Blackwood. And there are services at 8 a.m. and 10 respectively each Sunday.  It is sometimes possible for Baptisms to happen at Midday at either Church.

There is a period of preparation for :
  1. Adults, preparation usually requires a course of some weeks in order that  the candidates will understand their responsibilities and be prepared to take their life in the community of God’s church.

  2. Adult candidates would be expected to be confirmed by the Archbishop  either at the time of their baptism or shortly afterwards

  3. Children, preparation usually involves a session with the parish priest for the parents. If the Godparents can also be involved then that is to be encouraged.

Godparents. In the case of a child too young to answer for themselves the parents and godparents act as sponsors and answer on their behalf.   There are usually two or three godparents (there can be more or less).
As they are making Christian commitment on behalf of the child then preferably both but at least one parent should have been baptised, and all the godparents. If this is a difficulty then it needs to be discussed with the person taking the service.
