Advent Quiet Morning: “The Messiah is among you”
In response to the morning of quiet reflection organised by Revds Julia and Nic, Bryan Harris wrote the following reflection and kindly agreed to share it with the congregation:
I am frightened that I will disappoint you but I will still aim to respect you
I am frightened that you will ridicule me, but I will still aim to respect you
I am frightened that I will frustrate myself but I will still aim to respect me
I am frightened that I don’t know how to treat you with extra ordinary respect, but I
will let you help me.
I will remember that God has afforded me and does afford me extra ordinary respect!
So with God’s help I will offer and learn extra ordinary respect.
– Bryan Harris
Using a story called “The Rabbi’s Gift”, the morning provided three sessions of quiet reflection and ended with a shared Eucharist. The 24 participants had time to explore how living “with extraordinary respect” towards themselves and others might change their lives, the church, and the world. “Extraordinary respect” was a key concept of the story.
